After years of research, technological development and numerous installed systems, BG Plast has achieved a level of expertise that makes it a benchmark in the engineering and construction of extrusion lines for polypropylene (PP) hollow core sheets. The highlight is BGBoard 3200, a high-performance line dedicated to the production of PP homopolymer and copolymer hollow-core plastic sheets, with a maximum sheet width of 3000 mm.

The line was developed to meet the needs of a market increasingly focused on lightweight, durable, recyclable materials suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. Thanks to its internal structure, PP honeycomb board combines rigidity, lightness and dimensional stability: a viable alternative to traditional materials such as corrugated cardboard or other solid plastic panels.

Applications of PP hollow sheets

Polypropylene hollow core sheets produced on BG Plast extrusion lines are found in a wide range of industries, thanks to their versatility and excellent mechanical properties.

They are widely used in signage and wayfinding, where flatness, lightness and resistance to external agents are required. In the advertising and packaging sectors, PP plastic hollow board stands out for its ease of processing, printing and die-cutting.

A particularly significant area of application is packaging, both for food products and for reusable industrial packaging, where hygiene, strength and recyclability are fundamental requirements. The material is also used in the construction industry, in technical and temporary applications, and in the agricultural sector, for example for partitions, containers and protective covers.

There are also applications in the automotive industry, where PP hollow profile sheet is used for lightweight components, dividers and supports, as well as in the renewable energy sector, particularly for panels and supports for photovoltaic systems.

Technical specifications of the BGBoard 3200 line – our customized PP hollow sheet extrusion line

The distinctive feature of the BGBoard 3200 line lies in the choice of extruder technology. For the first time in the world, BG Plast has employed a counter-rotating twin-screw extruder with 125 mm screw diameter for the production of PP hollow core sheets. A significant evolution compared to traditional polypropylene extrusion methods.

Thanks to the specific processing methods used for the material, the extruder enables higher production rates across all thicknesses without degrading the polymer material. The result is a sheet with consistent mechanical properties, a good surface finish and a uniform honeycomb structure.

Another advantage concerns the plant’s energy efficiency: total consumption is significantly lower than with conventional solutions, with a reduction of about one-third in installed power for the extruder alone. This feature makes the line particularly interesting in terms of reducing operating costs and improving the sustainability of the production process.

The system is complemented by a fully automatic calibration unit, designed to provide opening and closing adjustments with tolerances down to one-hundredth of a millimeter, for dimensional accuracy and reproducibility of the finished product even during continuous production.
