From April 21 to 24, 2026, Frankfurt will once again become the international hub for those who develop and process high-performance materials. Techtextil is not just a product showcase, but a privileged vantage point for observing process evolution: it is here that new directions are defined for the world of technical textiles and nonwovens, along with composite materials, coated textiles and technologies that shape the future.
The last edition attracted over 38,000 visitors from 102 countries, drawn to more than 1,700 exhibitors. A truly strategic event for all industry players – from automotive to medical, from construction to packaging – where process innovation and material performance take the spotlight.
BG Plast will be there: we will be co-exhibiting with Comerio Ercole S.p.A. and ATF S.r.l., bringing to the forefront a key theme for the growth of composite materials: extrusion coating and lamination applied to nonwovens, carpet and technical textiles.
These are not simply proven technologies, but increasingly integrated systems, in which the process is designed to guarantee uniformity, adhesion and stability even in complex applications, such as high-performance technical membranes.

Extrusion coating: when the process drives performance for key competitive advantages
Extrusion coating is often described as simply applying a polymer to a substrate. In reality, in the most advanced applications, it is much more than that: it is an engineered process that directly determines the material’s final performance.
In BG Plast lines, the polymer – which can be LDPE, EVA, TPU, or other specific formulations – is brought to a molten state and distributed with maximum precision via a flat die. It is during the coupling, or lamination, stage that the crucial step takes place: the molten film meets the substrate (non-woven fabric, woven fabric, paper, carpet) and, through a system of specifically calibrated rollers, bonds uniformly.
The role of the lamination unit is critical. The thermal management of the rollers, designed with internal circuits to ensure temperature uniformity, allows for a stable, defect-free surface with characteristics that remain unchanged over time. Control of pressure and cooling conditions directly affects the quality of adhesion and the finish of the final product.
The result is not merely a coated material, but a composite in which the properties of the individual elements are functionally combined to deliver performance that none of the components could achieve on its own.
Additional benefits of extrusion coating with BG Plast
- Solvent- and adhesive-free (sustainable process)
- High productivity (lines up to 500 m/min)
- Millimeter thickness control (8–250 µm)
- Improved barrier, mechanical and weldability properties.
Coating laminated onto nonwoven fabric: a balance between lightness and functionality
In the case of nonwoven fabric, the integration of materials and properties becomes even more evident. Nonwoven fabric is an extremely versatile material, but for many applications it needs to be “enhanced”: it must become waterproof, more durable (in terms of mechanical properties, for example), or acquire specific barrier properties.
Extrusion coating allows all of this to be achieved without the use of adhesives or solvents, through a clean and continuous process. It is precisely this feature that makes it particularly suitable for sectors such as healthcare (gowns, medical devices, bed pads, diapers) or construction (waterproof membranes and geotextiles), where performance must necessarily be reliable and constant. Among other applications, technical packaging is noteworthy, which may include the use of biopolymers for biodegradable and compostable packaging, as well as packaging for the industrial and agricultural sectors – replacing, for example, jute.
For our customers, we develop line configurations in which every parameter—from polymer temperature to line speed, right down to material tension control—is optimized to deliver excellent adhesion even on lightweight and delicate substrates such as non-woven fabric. The coordination of the entire extrusion and coating process must be integrated to reduce production variability, defects and energy consumption: your goal is our goal.
Take, for example, a recent project involving high-performance multilayer technical membranes. In this case, the challenge was not only to apply a coating but to maintain uniformity and cohesion across the entire width of the material, avoiding defects and ensuring production continuity. Success was achieved through complete process integration, in which every component of the line works in synergy.

Lamination unit: thermal control of rollers for uniform surfaces
Extrusion coating: lamination with carpet and technical fabrics for advanced industrial applications
While nonwoven fabrics require a high degree of control, lamination with carpet and technical fabrics introduces another level of complexity: the coating is not only functional but often structural as well.
In the automotive sector, for example, materials must simultaneously meet requirements for strength, liquid barrier properties, lightness and sound insulation to produce door panels and interior trim, as well as floor mats and overhead storage compartments. The same applies to the building sector (thermal and acoustic insulation membranes) and the contract sector (technical carpets), where surfaces must maintain stability and performance over time.
Other applications include the footwear and apparel sectors, with materials for footwear, reinforcements and the production of technical fabrics coated with PVC or TPU to ensure waterproofing and durability.
BG Plast lines are designed to handle these applications through multi-layer configurations that allow for the combination of polymers (PVC, TPU, EVA/PP, TPO and TPV) and various substrates, including industrial fabrics and natural fibers. The ability to process wide widths (up to 3200 mm) and structures with up to six layers paves the way for highly customized solutions.
For us, lamination is a true material construction process. The coating contributes to strength, sealing, and dimensional stability, while the textile substrate maintains flexibility and specific mechanical properties.
BG Plast’s integrated extrusion coating and laminating lines: control, continuity, flexibility
We design complete extrusion coating and laminating equipment, in which every stage of the process is integrated and optimized.
The extruder, with configurations adaptable to different polymers and advanced thermal control, works in synergy with the flat die (T-die) – with manual or automatic adjustment – to assure uniform material distribution. The lamination unit guarantees controlled thermal and mechanical conditions thanks to large-diameter rollers and pneumatic pressure control. Meanwhile, auxiliary systems – such as corona, flame, or plasma surface treatments, thickness control and automatic reel handling – help stabilize the process even at high speeds.
This integration not only improves product quality but also reduces operational variables, for greater long-term production reliability.

Extrusion coating and lamination: a key technology for the materials of the future
The evolution of materials increasingly involves the ability to combine different properties within complex structures. Extrusion coating and lamination are indispensable technologies for transforming simple substrates into high-performance solutions that integrate polymers and functional materials.
The ability to operate without adhesives, to integrate multiple materials in-line, to precisely control every process parameter and to improve sustainability and recyclability makes these technologies central to the development of new products, particularly in the most demanding sectors.
At Techtextil 2026, we will present this vision with concrete solutions: systems designed not only to produce, but to guarantee quality, continuity and performance.
